About the NE Hurricanes

Our Program

The Northeast Hurricane Junior Olympic Girls Softball and EBL Boys Baseball is an organization dedicated to the development of young baseball and softball players, and also to developing our players to be role models in their respective communities. The Hurricane organization maintains high standards of discipline, teamwork, and respect which we expect from all of our players. We consider this a demonstration of honoring the game. The goal of the Hurricane staff is to instill these values through various lessons learned throughout the season in games and practices.

Our program operates teams out of all three Play Ball facilities: Salem, NH, Salisbury, MA and Nashua, NH. We offer EBL baseball teams from 9U-17U and ASA softball teams from 10U-O18. Our program is headquartered out of the Salem location.

Our Program Objectives

The Northeast Hurricanes Baseball/Softball Club provides elite athletes the opportunity to:

  • develop both a strategic understanding of the game and a tactical execution of the game's skills;

Our teams are trained and coached by professional staff, who work with their teams year-round to develop each player on the roster.

Program Philosophy

Our professional coaching perspective, drawn from experience at all levels of the game, is that undue importance is placed on winning and individual success in our sporting culture, particularly at the youth level. While we recognize that winning adds to the experience of playing the game, we also are aware of how its over-emphasis can cripple the development of young ballplayers.

As a staff who has been on championship teams at all levels, we believe that winning is the by-product of a team-oriented developmental process in which individuals commit themselves to the pursuit of excellence - both in effort and performance. We pursue excellence through repetition and perfect technique.

Our History

The Northeast Hurricanes Baseball/Softball Club was created in 2005 as a non-profit organization committed to providing talented and motivated players opportunities to train and compete at the highest level possible.  Started by Dean Borrelli (8-year professional baseball catcher) and Brian Martin (long-time highly respected and successful multi-sport coach) when they looked around for opportunities for their daughters to prepare to play in college. After finding no such team or program in the area, they decided to created such a team.

Once their daughters left to play DII college softball, Dean went on to build this idea into a program that could provide an exceptional training experience for all capable and motivated youth baseball and softball players looking for just such a thing. After first growing the original Salem, NH location into the most successful youth sports program in New England, the program grew to enable players from different areas to benefit from our thorough year-round player development program.

What started as a single team has grown to a 3-location, 20+ team organization who has dominated the local softball scene ever since. We program is led by instructors with exceptional qualifications. These former professional baseball players and collegiate softball players teach, coach, and instruct players year-round. Our professional training and coaching staff developed curriculums for each season that enable all teams in all locations to receive exceptional standardized training.

As a result of providing the highest quality training and competition, we have  placed a multitude of players into the college baseball and softball ranks, proudly watching them continue to play beyond our program.

We are proud of our history and excited about our future.
